A CHOREOGRAPHIC EXPLORATION OF THE CONTEMPORARY FEMALE

“As you watch them perform an inversion happens: their gaze falls on you, their emotions unleash, and their small intimate dance space disintegrates until we become us. Artistic director and choreographer, Kelsy Rupp, delves into the very soul of humanity in KMR Dance Collective’s presentation of SHE IS ART. Company artists and choreographic collaborators, Elizabeth Buchheister, Tara Nalley, Regina Lachemann, and Kylee Sherbert intrigue us all as they turn our small circular sitting arrangement into a fusion of emotional connectedness. This liaison between dancers and audience breaks down the expected boundaries and relationships of societal performance ideals. SHE IS ART is a journey through the female experience without all the rules and expectations of the male gaze. As we become entrenched in the heart of movement personal boundaries seem irrelevant in context of human interactions and independent confines. This piece exudes a visual and tactile cleverness that needs to be immersed by all. Breaking through the margins of conformity, SHE IS ART brings the blank page to life writing “her” story and merging “his” into an intricate dance.”
